Caroline || 2012 Senior

If I had to describe Caroline in one word I would say refreshing. Her spirit and energy is captivating. I’ve known Caroline for almost my whole life. She is quite the bubbly one and frequently breaks into dance and song ;). She loves the Lord and holds a note-filled Bible. When she sings, I am brought to tears; her voice is so sweet and I feel like a proud mama. I always feel at home with her and I love her family to pieces. We’ve shared some all-nighters, road trips and countless laughs. She makes a killer french silk pie and is going to Le Cordon Bleu in France in a couple of years. Let’s face it...she’s amazing. This girl has got a bright future ahead of her & I’m so excited to see where she goes.

Week 26 || Project 52

Zen green tea, candles, water color paints, and a fresh, clean canvas. Every once in awhile it's nice to just breathe and paint. I love the way the water color paints trickle down the fresh canvas. Before a crazy week and at the end of a decently stressful one, I decided to do a little painting. Over the past few weeks, I've been learning a lot about truly loving my first love: Jesus. Putting Him first, desiring Him more deeply and submitting to His will. It's all a process and I pray that He would be at the very center of my life.

Galatians 5:22 says "But the fruit of the Spirit is love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, gentleness and self control."

[a note on project 52: I've been doing this project for 26 weeks and we're at the half way point. I'm so happy I've stuck with it and I am confident that I will finish what I started. So thankful for all the other photographers that are doing this with me.]

Let's get Cookin'! || Inspiration

So I'm a bit of a Pinterest addict...but who isn't? It keeps me inspired, motivated and always distracts me. I've found some of the best recipes ever on Pinterest and I'd like to share this culinary goodness with all of you.

I used to be able to get through my days without a cup of coffee but that came to an end soon enough. I am a big crab if I don't have my coffee in the morning now! This magical coffee really is magical. The cinnamon and brown sugar wakes me up a bit more and in my opinion, there's no need for cream ;)

I LOVE flavored water. I will most likely always have a lemon or lime in my water bottle...but these water ideas inspired me to switch it up a bit!

Yum! Cherry tomatos, parmesan, chicken, garlic...what more could you want? I made this for Mother's Day and it was so delicious. I was a little hesitant if it would blow my mind or not, but this dish definitely blew my mind.

One of the reasons I love summer so much is because of the fresh food. Strawberries, spinach, corn, mangos. Some people might think "yuck" when they think "strawberry spinach salad" but I can assure you this salad is the essence of summer.

Remember when I made this? I found the recipe on Pinterest! If you read about this yummy strawberry limeade or made it, let me know if you love it as much as me ;)

Crock pots are life savers, are they not? I made this honey sesame chicken in my trusty crock pot back in the fall and it was oh, so good.

Salsa is good but taco dip is even better and heavenly when it's skinny. I made this for the super bowl way back in February.

Slutty brownies. Yes, these are called slutty brownies. Just look at that picture. Need I say more?

The mug brownie. Classic and so, so easy. Go make one right now.

These are most of the recipes I've tried from Pinterest so far! Let me know what recipes you've tried from Pinterest :)

Happy Sunday!

Into the Wilderness || Personal

There’s not a summer I can remember not coming up to my grandparent’s lake house. We’d drive 6 hours so I could run to granny’s arms. She’d always buy us poppers (little fireworks that pop when you throw them) and make us mickey mouse pancakes in the morning. My papa would take us out on the boat and after we’d go to Charley’s to get a “bigger-than-my-head” ice cream cone.

There’s just something about tire swings and dirt roads...maybe it’s the way I can hear the loons with my window cracked open at night, or the frogs croaking, or the otters swimming in the lake just 20 feet away. Being on the lake this weekend was bliss. I could have sat on the dock forever with a warm cup of coffee in my hands, reading Luke and watching the lake dance.

I always seem to doze off after a big breakfast of cinnamon french toast and overcooked bacon (just the way I like it). Mid-morning naps in the sun with the breeze combing through my hair. Soon enough, we’ll make the trek into town for a brat and one of those “bigger-than-my-head” ice cream cones.

Being in the middle of a lake, surrounded by glass-like water, and watching the sun disappear. My dad casts a line and I watch the sun and realize I’m here. My mind isn’t wandering off about next week, my low bank account or my future. My mind is here, at the lake.

The difference between living in the suburbs of Chicago and visiting the wilderness of Wisconsin is a breath of fresh air. Being able to wake up to the sound of birds chirping (and a few boat motors!) and walk down to the lake is quite possibly one of my favorite things. There is space here; I can breathe, sing, adventure. There is time here; I can listen, write, watch, read.

Ten deer sightings. One turkey sighting. Countless cranes, eagles, and loons. One ice cream cone. Two pecan pancakes. Two boat rides. One amazing sunset. A million stars. One beautiful adventure.

Week 25 || Project 52

I am a sucker for film and old photographic processes. I started a wet plate collodion class last week and I am sure it’s going to be an 8-week adventure. You’re probably wondering “what the heck is wet plate collodion?” Rather than me telling you and being completely confused, watch the video below and maybe you’ll be a little less confused and a little more intrigued.

Love. The process is so beautiful. So far, I haven’t thrown a plate and gotten really mad (but that has happened in the dark room before!) Here are the first four plates I made. I am so excited for this class and the adventures to entail :)

Alli || Portraits

Alli is my coffee date buddy, harmonizing partner, soy-chai-lovin'-pal, and soul sista. I've known Alli for almost four years. The first time we met at youth group, we clicked instantly. We've had our fair share of Starbucks dates & Chipotle runs...but not enough bike rides! ;) She's a sucker for happy tunes, mangos and of course, mint green [as am I!]. She is such a beauty [seriously, look at her in these photos!] and her heart for the Lord and worship is inspiring.

Alli is shooting a wedding with me in just a few weeks so we went over to check out the location. We can't wait to capture Hannah & Paul's day :)
